ABOUT THIS IMAGE

It is a 3-D representation of the force developed along the shaft of a foundation pile after it is hit by a hammer blow. The horizontal axis is time, the vertical axis is the force amplitude and the z-axis (perpendicular to the screen) is the pile length. Compressive forces are shown in blue, and tensile forces are shown in red.

This image was generated by the PDI-Wave program developed by JWB for Pile Dynamics, Inc., and can be downloaded for free here.

ABOUT THE PDI-WAVE PROGRAM

It simulates the effect of a hammer blow on a foundation pile. The pile size and material can be changed, and so does the total soil resistance, the percent skin friction, the hammer properties (ram weight and stroke) and the cushion properties.

Available outputs:
Animated image of the wave propagation along the pile
Force, velocity, wave up, wave down, displacement, energy and soil resistance on user selectable places along the pile
3-D representation of the forces along the pile
PDI-Wave is distributed exclusively by Pile Dynamics, Inc.
